Everson Griffen is an American football defensive end for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League. He was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Griffen attended Agua Fria High School in Avondale, Arizona, the same high school as Vikings Hall of Famer Randall McDaniel. He also played basketball for the University of California, Los Angeles.

Griffen attended Agua Fria High School in Avondale, Arizona, the same high school as Vikings Hall of Famer Randall McDaniel. He ran for 1,251 yards on 159 carries with 20 touchdowns and had 6 receptions with 2 touchdowns as a running back. In his senior year, Griffen recorded 77 tackles, 16 sacks and a fumble recovery as a defensive end and ran a 4. 46-second 40-yard dash at 6-foot-4 and about 260 pounds, which earned him the nickname ‘The Freak’ Griffen was previously arrested for “physically abusing a freshman” in 2008 after a prank by the Los Angeles Police Department staged a team meeting and had to enter a meeting and enter a police station. In 2013, he won the Gatorade Arizona Player of the year award for his performance in the shot put and discus events at the 2007 4A I State Meet. In 2014, he earned first- team all-region honors in basketball. He played in the NFL All-Star Game for the first time in his career and was a member of the New York Giants’ Super Bowl-winning Super Bowl XLVII victory team. In 2015, he signed a contract extension with the Lions that will keep him in the league for the next 10 years. He will also play for the Cowboys in 2018 and 2019, as well as the Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers.
