Willard Carroll Smith Jr. is an American actor, producer and rapper. He rose to fame in the late 1980s as a rapper under the name The Fresh Prince. In 1990, his popularity increased when he began starring in the NBC television series The FreshPrince of Bel-Air. After the series ended, Smith transitioned from television to film and went on to star in numerous blockbuster films. Smith has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards and two Academy Awards, and has won four Grammy Awards.

He has an elder sister named Pamela and two younger siblings, twins Harry and Ellen. Smith and Jeffrey Townes are still friends and claim that they split up, having made songs under Smith’s solo performer credit around 1988 and 1989 and under the label Word Up Records. The duo’s second album, ‘Rock The House’ was released in March 1989, and earned the best hip-hop album Grammy award for ‘Summer of ’88. Smith is married to his childhood friend Jeffrey ‘DJ Jazzy Jeff’ Townes, a turntablist and producer. The couple have two children, a son, a daughter, and a step-son. Smith was born on September 25, 1968 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Caroline, a Philadelphia school board administrator, and Willard CarrollSmith Sr., a U.S. Air Force veteran and refrigeration engineer. He grew up in West Philadelphia’s Wynnefield neighborhood, and was raised Baptist. Smith attended Our Lady of Lourdes, a private Catholic elementary school in Philadelphia. He never applied to college because he never wanted to go to college.
