About One America News Network in brief

Summary One America News NetworkOne America News Network, also known as One America News, is a far-right, pro-Donald Trump cable channel. The channel is known for promoting falsehoods and conspiracy theories. The network is headquartered in San Diego, California, and operates news bureaus in Washington, D. C. and New York City. On November 24, 2020, YouTube suspended and demonetized OANN’s channel for one week as a first strike under its three-strike community guideline violation policy, for falsely claiming the existence of a cure for COVID-19. In June 2019, OANN said that it reached 35 million homes. OAN was granted a permanent seat in the White House’s press briefing room in June 2017. The White House has called OAN one of the top five most-upon reporters covering the Trump administration. OANN has been repeatedly called for questions from the press during press conferences, including during February 2017’s press conference on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist attacks. Oann has described itself as one of the \”greatest supporters\” of Trump, and Trump himself has promoted both the network and some of its hosts. In 2019, the channel aired the Canadian television film Claws of the Red Dragon, which had signed Steve Bannon as its American distributor. In July 2014, OAN relocated its news and production studios to 101 Constitution Avenue NW, near the Capitol. On August 19, 2015, Tomi Lahren aired her final show at OAN. On the week of August 24, former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin guest hosted a program on the network.

In October 2017, the network claimed without evidence that a report had been published which showed that a \”U.S. Crime Rises 13% Amid Radical Islamic Terror” had been false. The report was later retracted by the Department of Justice, and OAN said it had been wrong to claim that the report was based on evidence that it was not based on any evidence at all. In January 2018, the company announced that it would be selling its stake in OAN to a private equity firm. The company is owned by Robert Herring Sr., the son of the network’s founder and CEO, and also owns sister channel AWE. The father of Charles Herring, Robert Herrings Sr. has ordered producers to promote pro-Trump stories, anti-Clinton stories, and anti-abortion stories. He has also ordered them to minimize coverage of Pope Francis’s US visit, due to the Pope’s calls for action on global warming. According to former and current employees at the channel, as well as internal e-mails, July 2017 the channel had directed the channel to encourage stories about police shootings, Russian aggression, andanti-abortion, and other stories by executives of executives of the channel. In 2013, the father and CEO of OAN told the 2013 Conservative Political Action Conference that Fox News has done a great job serving the center-right and independent audiences, but that the audience’s alternative news sources lacked. At the time, Oann had approximately 150 staff.
