Mirza Masroor Ahmad

Mirza Masroor Ahmad is the current and fifth leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. He was elected on 22 April 2003, three days after the death of his predecessor Mirza Tahir Ahmad. His mother is a sister of the fourth caliph, his father is a brother-in-law of the fifth caliph.

Summary Mirza Masroor AhmadMirza Masroor Ahmad is the current and fifth leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. His official title within the movement is Fifth Caliph of the Messiah. He was elected on 22 April 2003, three days after the death of his predecessor Mirza Tahir Ahmad. Since being elected, he has travelled extensively across the world to meet the members of the community and address their annual gatherings. He has focused particularly on directing the community in systematically countering negative media coverage of Islam and engaging in grassroots efforts to propagate what the community believes is the true message of Islam. Under his leadership the community’s global satellite TV network MTA International, launched by his predecessor, has expanded into several further affiliated TV channels, social media and radio stations to provide transmission in different languages. Further campuses have been established including one in Ghana and one in the United Kingdom, the latter has been the first in Europe. In 2009, he initiated the Ahmadiiya Muslim Peace Prize; an international peace award for individuals or organisations that have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment and service to the cause of peace and humanitarianism. In response to ongoing conflicts he has sent letters to world leaders warning of the real risk of World War, and urging them to make practical efforts towards lasting peace. He is also responsible for the finances on the finances of the Community in Pakistan and on 10 December 1997 he was appointed as Ameer A’er Nazir A’er.

In 1999, a resolution was presented in the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab accusing the Community of erasing certain parts of the name Rabwah. A few days later, a First Information Report was filed accusing the community members of changing the name of the Qurwah to Chenabar Nagar Signage. The resolution passed without much debate and the name was officially changed to Nagar A’ar Nagal Signage in December 1999. He also served as the Director of Education within the Community and until his election as caliph in December 1997. In 2004, he launched – and regularly addresses – the annual National Peace Symposium in which guests from all walks of life come together at the largest mosque in Western Europe to exchange ideas on establishing world peace. He served in Ghana for over eight years as principal of a school in Essarkyir, located in the centreal region of Ghana, where he served as principal for four years. He successfully planted and nurtured wheat for the first time in Ghana. After serving in Ghana, he returned to Pakistan and made 17 March 1985 as the director of Education and on 17 December 1985 he was made Ameer of the Ameer Nazer A‘er Nagar signage in the province of Punjab. In December 1999, he was responsible for finances on finances and on December 20, 1999, the First Information report was filed against the Community members of Punjab for erasing the name ‘Rabwah’.
