Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine
Victoria Mountbatten was the daughter of Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and Princess Elisabeth of Hesse and by Rhine. She married Prince Louis of Battenberg, an officer in the Royal Navy, over her father’s disapproval. She is the maternal grandmother of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and mother-in-law of king Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden.
