Jason Michael Isaacs is an English actor. He is best known for his roles as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, Colonel William Tavington in The Patriot and Captain Hook in Peter Pan. Isaacs’ roles in television have included Dr. Hunter Aloysius Percy in the Netflix supernatural series The OA, Captain Gabriel Lorca in the first season of Star Trek: Discovery and the voice of Admiral Zhao in Avatar: The Last Airbender.

He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for The State Within and for the British Academy Television Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Harry H. Corbett in The Curse of Steptoe. He also appeared in a 50th-anniversary revival of Harold Pinter’s 1957 play The Dumb Waiter at Trafalgar Studios in the West End. He has appeared in over 30 plays and performed each summer at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, first with Bristol University and then twice with the National Student Theatre Company. He played Louis Ironson in Declan Donnellan’s 1992 and 1993 Royal National Theatre premieres of Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes. He’s also played Michael Ryan in ITV drama Civvies: The Series and in ITV adaptation of Martina Cole’s Dangerous Lady, directed by Jack Woods and produced by Lavinia Warner. He lives in London with his wife and two children, and has a son and daughter with his ex-wife, who is also an actor.

His parents emigrated to Israel when he was a child, and he has three brothers and a daughter with whom he has two step-daughters. He had a Jewish upbringing in Liverpool, and attended a local synagogue and a Jewish school as a young adult. As a Jewish teenager in London, Isaacs endured marked antisemitism by members and supporters of the far right extremist organisation, the National Front. He describes the bullying and intolerance he observed during his childhood as ‘preparation’ for portraying the villains he has most often played. His father was a jeweller, and his mother was a Jewish mother. He currently lives with his family in London and has two children with his second wife, who he has four step-children with. He works as a freelance writer and producer in the UK and the U.S. and lives in Los Angeles with his husband and three children. His wife and children have three children, all of whom live in the United States with their mother and father-in-law. He and his wife have a son, who lives in New York City with his mother and step-father. He recently appeared in the film version of The End of the Affair, starring alongside Tom Hanks and Amy Adams, and the TV series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, starring in the role of Captain Waggoner in Fury. He appeared in The Tuxedo, The Fix, Nine Lives, Friends with Money, Abduction, A Single Shot, After the Fall and A Cure for Wellness.
