Jason Garrett

Jason Calvin Garrett is the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants of the National Football League. He previously served as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys during the 2010s. Garrett was a college football quarterback at Princeton University, and also played for the Cowboys, New York Giant, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Miami Dolphins. He is the son of former Dallas Cowboys coach Jim Garrett and the grandson of former Cowboys owner Tom Landry.

He continues to hold the Ivy League career record for completion percentage with 66. 5% and his 1988 percentage of 68. 2% stood as the league record until 2000, when Gavin Hoffman posted a 70.5% mark. The highlight of Garrett’s playing career occurred on Thanksgiving Day 1994 when he led the Green Bay Packers to a comeback win over the Washington Redskins. In 2008, that game was named the fourth-best moment in the history of Texas Stadium by ESPN. He is the son of former Dallas Cowboys coach Jim Garrett and the grandson of former Cowboys owner Tom Landry. Garrett is married to former New Orleans Saints head coach LZ Granderson. He has two children, a daughter and a son-in-law, both of whom have played in the NFL. He also has two step-children, a son and a step-daughter. He was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard during the 1990s. He attended University School in Hunting Valley, Ohio, where he was a letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. He went on to graduate from Princeton University with a degree in history in 1989.

Garrett also played quarterback for the San Antonio Riders of the World League of American Football in 1991. In 1992, with the support of his father, at the time a part of the Cowboys scouting department, Garrett was signed as a free agent. In 1993, his preseason performances allowed him to make the team as the third-string quarterback behind Troy Aikman and Hugh Millen. In 1995, he was promoted to the backup position and came in to finish the second game against the Denver Broncos. In the second half of the game, Garrett would finish to finish to 23–42 loss to the Broncos, which earned him Offensive Player of the Week honors. In 1996, he started in place of Rodney Peete, who was out with a sprained thumb, and led the Cowboys to a win against the Greenbay Packers. In 1997, he became the backup quarterback and started in the Thanksgiving Day victory over the Packers, which he led for 15 of 26 passes for 311 yards and 2 touchdowns in the half. In 1998, he played in two games for the Tampa Bay Bucs, and in 1999, he helped the team score on a field goal, before being replaced on the third series in favor of Bernie Kosar, who had been signed 4 days earlier. On June 4, 1991, he Was signed by the Ottawa Rough Riders ofthe Canadian Football League, but was released in August.
