Daniel McCoy is an American football quarterback for the New York Giants. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. McCoy played college football for the University of Texas from 2006 to 2009. He has also been a member of the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Redskins. He won the 2008 Walter Camp Award and was the 2008 Heisman Trophy runner-up.

McCoy is second to Boise State’s Kellen Moore in games won by an NCAA Division I quarterback. He won the 2008 Walter Camp Award, was the 2008 Heisman Trophy runner-up and was a 2009 Heisman finalist. As a high school player, McCoy was two-time Associated Press 2A Offensive MVP and First-team All-state selection. Over his career, he completed 536-of-849 passes for 9,344 yards and 116 TDs. He ranks as the all-time leading passer in Texas Division 2A high school history and is fourth overall in Texas high schoolHistory. He is the eldest of three children born to Steven Brad McCoy and Debra Kay McCoy. He attended Jim Ned High School in Tuscola, Texas, population 714, where he was coached in football by his father. He also played in the 2003 Texas 2A State Championship against the San Augustine Wolves. McCoy was given a redshirt year so he did not play during the team’s 2005 national championship season. In 2006, he was the first Texas freshman quarterback to start and win a season-opening game since Bobby Layne in 1944. On October 14, 2006, McCoy threw a Texas record six touchdown passes in the win against Baylor. In the 2006 Oklahoma State game McCoy threw for his 27th passing touchdown, giving him the sole possession of the most touchdowns by Texas Longhorn quarterback James Brown.

He led the Longhorns over a ranked rival team, Oklahoma River River, 28–10 in the Red Shootout. In 2008, he led the Texas Longhorns to a 28-10 victory over Oklahoma River, as well as his first come-from-behind victory over the Red River River team. In 2009, he tied for third in the nation with a quarterback rating of 165, tied with James Brown in the list of most touchdown passes by a Longhorn passer. McCoy also served as Jim Ned high School’s punter as a junior and senior. His father decided not to let him play defense anymore after he suffered a concussion while tackling 215-pound Bangs High School running back Jacoby Jones, his father decided that McCoy should play defense instead. The following year, with Vince Young forgoing his senior year to enter the NFL and Nordgren graduating, the position of starting quarterback came down to a competition between redshirt freshman Colt McCoy and true freshman Jevan Snead. After winning out a close competition with Snead, McCoy became the 2006 starting quarterback for Texas. McCoy went 19–32, 156 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while rushing four times for a total of eight yards. The next week, Texas faced #1 Ohio State at home. Ohio State defeated the Longhorn 24–7, ending the Texas 21-game winning streak.
