The primary elections were originally scheduled for April 28, 2020, but were moved to June 23 due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. Donald Trump was the only Republican candidate to submit the required number of names of his 162 total delegates, both the 94 primary ones and the alternates.

The Working Families Party cross-endorsed the Democratic ticket, nominating Joe Biden for President and KamalaHarris for Vice President. The Green Party of New York nominated the national Green ticket; Howie Hawkins for national President and Angela Nicole Hawkins for vice president. The Libertarian Party nominated Spike Cohen for vice President; Joorgensen for President; and Pierce Pierce for independent President.
