Anthony David Gonzalez is a former professional American football tight end and sports analyst. He played in the National Football League for 17 seasons, primarily with the Kansas City Chiefs. He is a 14-time Pro Bowl selection and six-time first-team All-Pro. Gonzalez was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019.

He was born in Torrance, California, and was raised by his mother, Judy, who worked two jobs to support the family. His father’s family is of Cape Verdean, Jamaican, and Scottish descent, and his mother’s family are of African American, Euro-American, Argentinian, and Native American ancestry. Gonzalez was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019. He holds the NFL records for total receiving yards and receptions by a tight end. He also ranks third all-time in receptions, trailing only wide receivers Jerry Rice and Larry Fitzgerald. Gonzalez played college football and college basketball at University of California, Berkeley. As a senior, he caught 62 passes for 945 yards and 13 touchdowns and was a first- team All America selection at both football and basketball. He decided to forgo his final year of eligibility to declare for the NFL Draft. Gonzalez began his career in the 1997 season with 33 receptions, two touchdowns, and a blocked punt on special teams, helping the Chiefs to finish with the best record in the American Football Conference.

In the 2002 season, he had 63 receptions for 773 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns along with another Pro Bowl nod. For the fourth time in his career, he was named as a First Team All- pro. From 2003 to 2006, Gonzalez was the most productive tight end in the NFL. He also played for the Atlanta Falcons in his last five seasons. Since retiring, he has served as an analyst for Fox Sports. He has also been a coach for the San Diego Chargers and the San Francisco 49ers. Gonzalez is married to former NFL star and San Diego Charger Michele Rivers. He had two children with his wife, Toni, who is also a former NFL player and current Fox Sports analyst. The couple has a son, Anthony David Gonzalez Jr., who was named to the NFL All-Rookie Team for the 1998 season. Gonzalez shared the Orange County High School Athlete of the Year along with golfer Tiger Woods. He lettered in football andasketball at Huntington Beach High School in Huntington Beach, California. Gonzalez has two children, Anthony Gonzalez Jr. and Toni Gonzalez, who was also an All-Pac-10 and All-America selection at California. In his junior year, he played in 28 games, averaging 6. 8 points and 5. 4 rebounds per game as California made it to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. Gonzalez had to choose a career between basketball and football. He later played tight end under future NFL coach Steve Mariucci.
