The soundtrack was also released in Disney through its Buena Vista Records label and an edited version, along with an accompanying LP, read by John O’Connor. A second music album of music inspired by The Hobbit was released in 1978. The Hobbit won a Peabody Award for his teleplay for The Hobbit, and was also nominated for the Best Dramatic Presentation, but lost to Star Wars.

It also won a Hugo Award for Best Actor for John Huston for his portrayal of Gandalf in The Hobbit. The story’s hero, Bilbo Baggins, is voiced by Orson Bean, backed up by noted Hollywood director and actorJohn Huston as the voice of Gandals. In supporting roles, the comedian and performance artist Brother Theodore was chosen for the. voice of Gollum, and Thurl Ravenscroft performed the baritone singing voices of the goblins. In 1978, John OConnor wrote a song for the film called ‘The Greatest Adventure’, sung by Glenn Yarbrough. This folk ballad came to be associated with Yarbough, who reprised it in the soundtrack to 1980 animated film The Return of the King.
