The Darkness are a British rock band formed in Lowestoft, Suffolk, in 2000. The band consists of Justin Hawkins, his brother Dan Hawkins, Frankie Poullain and Rufus Tiger Taylor. Their debut album, Permission to Land, went straight up to number two in the UK charts upon its release on 7 July 2003. In 2004 the band won three Brit Awards: Best British Group, Best British Rock Act, and Best British Album. Original drummer Ed Graham then left the band, feeling the strain of touring was affecting his personal life.

In 2004 the band won three Brit Awards: Best British Group, Best British Rock Act, and Best British Album. Original drummer Ed Graham then left the band, feeling the strain of touring was affecting his personal life, in which he had pressing issues. On 15 March 2011, The Darkness announced reunion shows, with original bassist Frankie POUllain, including Download Festival 2011, and the Isle of Wight Festival 2012. Their third album, Hot Cakes, was released on 20 August 2012. In 2015 a fourth studio album was announced, entitled Last of Our Kind, which was released in June 2015. A fifth album, Pinewood Smile, was release on 6 October 2017 and one year later on 15 June 2018 a live album, Live at Hammersmith, was also released. Their sixth studio album, Easter Is Cancelled was released on 4 October 2019. The Darkness took inspiration for some of their work from the local north Suffolk village of Blythburgh. The third single from the album, \”I Believe in a Thing Called Love\”, was a substantial hit in the Christmas 2003 Christmas time slot.

They also won two Kerrang! awards in 2004 for Best Live Act and Best Live Album. The group have released five albums, including a live DVD, and a live CD, Live in London. They have also released two compilation albums, one of which is called The Best of The Darkness, the other is called The Best Of The Darkness. The album was certified quadruple platinum in the United Kingdom, with sales of over 1.3 million copies. In 2005, Justin Hawkins departed from the band after successfully completing a course of rehabilitation from alcohol and cocaine abuse. As a result, the remaining members formed Stone Gods, and continued to perform and record without Hawkins, who subsequently fronted his own project, Hot Leg. The current line-up is: Justin Hawkins, Dan Hawkins, Ed Graham, Richie Edwards, and Frankie Poulson. The new member of Stone Gods is Justin Hawkins’ brother Dan. The former members of the band are: Ed Graham and Richie Edwards. The last member of the group is Ed Graham. They are: Justin and Dan Hawkins. The first two members of Stone gods are: Dan Hawkins and FrankiePoullains. The fourth member of The Darkness is RufUS Tiger Taylor, who has been in the band since 2003. The fifth album was released in June 2015, and was called Last of our Kind. It is the band’s fourth album, entitled PinewOOD Smile, which is released on 2 June 2015 and was released by Atlantic Records.
