Ryan White
Ryan Wayne White was diagnosed with AIDS in December 1984. He was given six months to live, but lived five years longer than predicted. Congress passed a major piece of AIDS legislation, the Ryan White CARE Act, shortly after White’s death. Ryan White Programs are the largest provider of services for people living with HIVAIDS in the United States.
