George (dog)
George was a Jack Russell Terrier with a heart condition. On 29 April 2007, five children in Manaia, New Zealand were attacked by two pit bulls. Nine-year-old George defended the children, but was severely injured by the melee. Owner Alan Gay’s veterinarian recommended euthanising George. Gay reluctantly agreed with the course of action.
