Shia Saide LaBeouf (born June 11, 1986) is an American actor, performance artist, and filmmaker. He played Louis Stevens in the Disney Channel series Even Stevens, a role for which he received a Young Artist Award nomination in 2001. In 2007, he starred in Michael Bay’s science fiction film Transformers as Sam Witwicky, the main protagonist of the series. His other credits include the films Holes, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Lawless, The Company You Keep, Nymphomaniac, Fury, American Honey, Borg vs McEnroe, Honey Boy and The Peanut Butter Falcon.

He has described himself as Jewish, and has stated that he was raised around ‘both sides’ of Christianity and Judaism. He was born in Los Angeles, California, as the only child of Shayna and Jeffrey Craig La Beouf. His mother is a dancer and ballerina turned visual artist and clothing jewelry designer, and his father is a Vietnam War veteran who had numerous jobs. Labeouf’s uncle was going to adopt him at one stage because his parents could not afford to have him anymore and had too much pride to go on welfare or food stamps. In an interview, he said that, looking back on his childhood, he feels grateful and considers some of those memories as scars.

He attended 32nd Street Visual and Performing Arts Magnet in LA and Alexander Hamilton High School, although he received most of his education from tutors. In 2008, he played Henry ‘Mutt Williams’ Jones III in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. In 2004, he made his directorial debut with the short film Let’s Love Hate and later directed a short film titled Maniac, starring American rappers Cage and Kid Cudi. In 2009, he appeared in the commercially successful films Disturbia and Surf’s Up. In 2010, he was cast in the box office success Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Transformers:  Dark of the Moon, both also box office successes. In 2011, he had a starring role in the film Wall Street and the sequel Wall Street 2: The Wall Street 3: Dead Man’s Chest. In 2012, he co-starred in the movie Wall Street 4: Dead Men Tell No Tales. In 2013, he also had a supporting role in Wall Street 5: Dead Girl Tell No Lies. In 2014, La beauf starred in the films Wall Street 6: Dead Woman Tell No Lie and Wall Street 7: Dead Dad Tells No Lie. In 2015, LaBeauf had a recurring role in The Lego Movie and The LEGO Movie 3: The Last Leg. In 2016, he began starring in the animated film The LEGO Batman Movie and the Lego Movie 4: The Deathly Hallows Part 2.
