Russell Carrington Wilson is an American football quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League. He played college football for the University of Wisconsin during the 2011 season, in which he set the single-season FBS record for passing efficiency. Wilson also played minor league baseball for the Tri-City Dust Devils in 2010 and the Asheville Tourists in 2011 as a second baseman. His brother, Harry, played football, baseball and basketball at University of Richmond, and his sister Anna plays basketball for Stanford. Wilson attended Collegiate School, a preparatory school in Richmond, Virginia, and was named an all-conference and all-state player as well as conference player of the year. As a senior, he threw for 3,009 passing yards, 34 passing touchdowns, and seven interceptions. In 2008, Wilson split time at quarterback with senior Daniel Evans and junior Harrison Beck. He also received a football scholarship from Duke University. Wilson was also a member of the North Carolina State University basketball and baseball teams. He is the son of Harrison Benjamin Wilson III, a lawyer, and Tammy Wilson, a legal nurse consultant. Wilson started playing football with his father and brother at the age of four, and played his first organized game for the Tuckahoe Tomahawks youth football team in sixth grade. His paternal grandfather, Harrison B. Wilson Jr, was a former president of Norfolk State University. His maternal grandfather was noted painter A. B. Jackson. His father died on June 9, 2010 at age 55 due to complications from diabetes. Wilson’s paternal grandmother, Anna W. Wilson, was on the faculty at Jackson State University, and her paternal grandmother was a noted painter and former college football and basketball coach. He attended a summer football clinic run by NFL MVP winner Peyton Manning.
