Rami Said Malek is an American actor and producer. He starred as computer hacker Elliot Alderson in the USA Network television series Mr. Robot. He also starred as Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury in the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Time magazine named Malek one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2019.

Summary Rami MalekRami Said Malek is an American actor and producer. He is best known for portraying computer hacker Elliot Alderson in the USA Network television series Mr. Robot. He also starred as Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury in the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Time magazine named Malek one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2019. Malek was born and raised in Los Angeles County to Egyptian immigrant parents. He studied theater at the University of Evansville in Indiana. He began his acting career performing plays in New York City theaters before returning to Los Angeles, where he found supporting roles in film and television, including the Fox sitcom The War at Home. He has done voicework for television and video games, as well as motion capture for the latter. His parents and older sister left Cairo in 1978 after his father, a travel agent and tour guide, became intrigued with Western visitors. They settled in Sherman Oaks, mostly staying in the San Fernando Valley and rarely venturing into Hollywood. His identical twin brother named Sami, who is younger by four minutes and later became an ESL and English teacher. His older sister, Yasmine, is an ER doctor. He completed his BFA in 2003, and later earned a Young Alumnus Award for his work in the play Waterford. He later won the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and British Academy Film Award for Best Actor.

He was also awarded a BAFTA for his role in the film The Night at the Museum film trilogy. He said he is also “an eighth Greek” and has said it was difficult to form a self-identity as a child. As a first-generation American, Malek found it difficult to assimilate during his childhood because of cultural differences. He spent most of his childhood having his name mispronounced: \”It only took me ’til high school where I found the confidence to tell everybody, ‘No, my name is Rami.” ” He has an identical twinbrother namedSami, whom he was in the same class as actress Rachel Bilson, who also attended the school and shared a musical theater class with him. He also spent a semester in England where he studied at Harlaxton College in Lincolnshire. During the summer, he interned at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford and became an acquaintance of Eugene Wilson, who later gave him a playwright’s grant. In 2013, he won a BFA for his performance in The War At Home, which was later given to him by the Young alumnus award. In 2014, he received a B.F.A. for his part in The Pacific, the HBO miniseries The Pacific, and the Night At the Museum movie trilogy. In 2015, he was awarded the BAFTA Award for best actor in a drama series for The Pacific and the BAFTAs for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture.
