Shaffer Chimere Smith, better known by his stage name Ne-Yo, is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, actor, dancer and television judge. He gained fame for his songwriting abilities when he penned his 2004 hit \”Let Me Love You\” His debut studio album, In My Own Words, was critically and commercially successful, reaching number one on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States. His sixth album, Non-Fiction, followed in 2015, and his seventh, Good Man, was released on June 8, 2018.

He and Houston have a son, R.E. D. Smith, who is also a musician. He appeared on the short lived MTV series The Cut with his band Envy in 2000. He continued to write songs for other artists before starting his solo career. In 2005, he released his debut solo single, \”Stay\”, to moderate success. His third studio album saw continued success and further Grammy Award nominations for Best Contemporary R&B Album as well as Album of the Year. His fourth studio album was certified platinum twice in the US, selling two million copies, also platinum three times in the UK and once in Japan. His fifth studio album saw the international success of its lead single, which became Ne- Yo’s fifth chart-topping song in the U.K. and sold over two million Copies of the single Libra Scale. In 2010, he signed a new deal with Def Jam Recordings after he performed at the A&R of Jay Z’s concert. In 2011, he performed for the first time at the New York Fashion Week. In 2012, he appeared on The Voice, where he performed alongside Beyonce and Jay-Z. In 2013, he had a role as a judge on the reality show Dancing with the Stars. In 2014, he hosted a reality show on The Tonight Show with Jay Z and Nick Cannon. In 2015, he co-hosted a reality series on TLC called The Real World with Nick Cannon and Nicki Minaj.
