It was released in the United States on November 4, 2016, grossing USD 180. 4 million worldwide, and received critical acclaim with Gibson’s direction and Garfield’s performance earning notable praise. It received six Oscar nominations at the 89th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Garfield, and Best Sound Editing, winning the awards for Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing. It also received Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture,. It has been called a return to form for Gibson, whose career had been in decline following several controversies surrounding the director. It will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on November 14, 2016. The box office gross for the film is estimated at $100 million, making it one of the highest-grossing war films of all time, along with The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: Return of the Planet of the Apes, among other films. A total of $1.2 billion has been made from the film so far, including $1 million from North Korea and $1 billion from South Korea and the U.S. It  has been released on DVD and Blu-Ray in the UK on November 15, 2014, and in Australia on November 17, 2014. The UK release date is November 21, 2015, and the US release date of November 22, 2015 is November 23, 2015. The US release dates for the UK release are November 28, 2015 and November 29, 2015 respectively. The U.K. release dates are November 30, 2016 and November 31, 2016 (the UK release dates were November 29 and November 30 in Australia and November 32, 2016 in South Africa). The US releases the film on DVD on December 7, 2015; the UK releases it on December 8, 2016; and the UK released it the following day on December 9, 2015 (the day of the Japanese invasion of the island of Honshu. The United States releases the movie on December 10, 2016   and the UK the next day.
