He also has a son-in-law, David, who is a professor of English at the London School of Economics and a former director of the Centre for Advanced Study in London. He has a grandson, David Havelocking, who was a member of the Canadian Communist Party. He wrote a book on the history of the socialist movement in Canada, The Social Reconstruction, which was published in 1987. He later wrote a biography of his wife, Ellen Parkinson, which has been published by The New York Review of Books and is available on Kindle for £3.99.
