Breanna Mackenzie Stewart is an American professional basketball player for the Seattle Storm of the Women’s National Basketball Association. In high school, Stewart was the National Gatorade Player of the Year, the Gatorades Female Athlete of the year, and a McDonald’s All-American. She led the University of Connecticut Huskies to four national championships. She was the first overall pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft and was named the2016 WNBA Rookie of theyear.

In high school, Stewart was the National Gatorade Player of the Year, the Gatorades Female Athlete of the year, and a McDonald’s All-American. She led the University of Connecticut Huskies to four national championships. In a 2017 essay in The Players’ Tribune, Stewart publicly revealed that she had been a victim of sexual abuse from age 9 to 11. She reported the abuse to her parents, who immediately called police. The perpetrator, who was married to her mother’s sister, confessed to the abuse and ultimately served prison time. Stewart achieved a milestone on January 31, 2012, when she scored her 2,000th point, as part of a 31–0 run against Auburn. She participated in the 2012 WBCA All-America Game, scoring 10 points. In March 2012 in a surprise presentation by Tamika Catchings, Stewart received the Catchings National Girls Basketball Player of Year award. She was the first overall pick in the 2016 WNBA Draft and was named the2016 WNBA Rookie of theyear. Stewart led the Storm to two championships in 2018 and 2020, and received the WNBA Finals MVP award both times. Prior to her first WNBA game, Stewart signed a multi-year endorsement deal with Nike. She has a younger half-brother, Connor, who she also has a stepfather, Brian Stewart, who adopted her when she was a toddler. The team represented the 24 best female high school basketball players in the country. In the 2012 Naismith High School Girls’ Game, she was awarded the honor by the Atlanta Tipoff Club Club. She is one of six finalists for the 2010 CNS CNS Girls Basketball Award, which is given to the best high school female basketball player in the U.S. The award is given each year to the winner of the CNS girls basketball national championship. Stewart won the award in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, and 2013. She also won it in 2014, 2015, and 2014, and 2015, as well as the 2014 and 2015 NCAA Division I Women’s Championships. In 2014, she won the NCAA Division II Women’s Championship and the 2014 NCAA Division III Women’s Division I Basketball Championship. In 2015, she also won the National Division II Girls Basketball Championship, which was the highest level of competition for high school girls in the United States. She won the national championship in the 2014-15 season and the 2015-16 season as a member of the UConn Huskies. In 2016, she became the first UConn player to be named the Final Four’s most outstanding player a record four times. In her junior year, she announced that she would be attending the university of Connecticut. The day after the announcement, she dunked the ball in a game against Baldwinsville, her first career dunk.
