Becky Hammon

Rebecca Lynn Hammon is an American-Russian professional basketball coach and former player. She is an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association. Hammon was born and raised in the United States, but became a naturalized Russian citizen in 2008. She represented the Russian women’s national basketball team at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

She represented the Russian women’s national basketball team at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. She was a three-time All-American basketball player for the Colorado State Rams. She also played for the New York Liberty of the WNBA and the Tennessee Fury of the Women’s National Basketball League. In August 2005, Hammon scored her 2,000th WNBA point. In January 2007, she played her WNBA Second Team season with the Rivas Rivas Futas of the Spanish Futas League. She played her final WNBA season in August 2007 with the San Antonio Stars of the WNBA’s Silver League. She retired from the NBA in August 2009. She has a daughter and a son, both of whom are professional basketball players. She currently lives in San Antonio, Texas with her husband and two children. She works as a coach for a private company. She previously worked as a personal trainer. She had a stint as a college basketball coach at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She won the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award as the best senior player under 5 ft 8 in in 1999.

In November 2004, she was inducted into the Colorado state University Sports Hall of Fame. Her number 25 Colorado State jersey was retired at Moby Arena on January 22, 2005. In December 2020, she will become the first female acting head coach in NBA history after Spurs’ head coach Gregg Popovich was ejected during a game against the Los Angeles Lakers. She will also be the first full-time female assistant coach in any of the four major professional sports in North America. In 2015, she became the first woman to be a head coach of a Summer League team in that league. She served as the team’s Summer League head coach for two seasons. In 2014, she also became the second female assistant coach and the first full-time female assistant coach in NBA history. In 2012, she won the WNBL’s Women’s Player of the Year award for her performance in the 2003-04 season. In 2013, she led the league in scoring, averaging 20. 6 points per game, and was named to the Second Team All-WNBA Second Team. In the 2014-15 season, she averaged 18 ppg and 5 apg and 0.5 apg in the W NBL’s Second Team Second Team First Team. Her career was cut short by a knee injury in the 2007-08 season. She went on to play for the San Antonio Stars and New York Liberty.
