She made her acting debut in the 2003 Malaysalam film Manassinakkare with Jayaram. She has also appeared in numerous commercially successful Tamil and Telugu films like Chandramukhi, Dubai Seenu, Tulasi, Billa, Yaaradi Nee Mohini, Aadhavan, Adhurs, Simha, Boss Engira Bhaskaran, Sri Rama Rajyam, Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum, Arrambam, Thani Oruvan, Maya and Iru Mugan. In 2010, she also made her Kannada film debut through the film Super, her only appearance in a Kannataka film to date. She also acted in Thaskara Veeran and Rappakal. In 2017, she was awarded thefilmfare.com award for BestMalayalam Actress. She is the daughter of Malayali Christian parents Kurian Kodiyattu and Omana Kurian who hail from Thiruvalla, Kerala. Her elder brother, Leno, lives in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She studied in various parts of India, mainly in North India.

She did her schooling in Jamnagar, Gujarat and Delhi. She then attended Marthoma College, Thiruva for her bachelor’s degree in English Literature. While studying at college, she worked part-time as a model. In 2005 she was cast in Hari’s Ayya, debuting in the Tamil film industry. She next made her debut in Telugu in the film Lakshmi, following which she performed in Three Love I Love You. In 2006, she accepted to appear in an item number as herself in the Perarasu-directed masala film Svanin Kivasi. Her first release in 2006 was Kalvanin, which was directed by Kalvan Kadhali. In 2007, she appeared in Kalvan in the comedy horror film Chandramu, after its director P. u’s wife recommended her. The film ran for over 800 days in theatres, eventually turning her into one of the mostsought after actresses in Tamil. In 2009, she starred in A Rugadini, in which she played a secondary female character. In 2012, she played the protagonist’s adopted sister in the psychological thriller Vismayathumbathu, while co-starring alongside Mohanlal, she portrayed a ghost in the latter. In 2013, she appeared in Natturajavu by Shaji Kailas.
