Frank William Abagnale Jr. is an American security consultant known for his career as a con man, check forger and impostor when he was 15 to 21 years old. His story inspired the Academy Award-nominated feature film, Catch Me If You Can, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks as the FBI agent pursuing him. He is currently a consultant and lecturer for the FBI academy and field offices. He also runs AbagnALE and Associates, a financial fraud consultancy company.

He became one of the most notorious impostors, claiming to have assumed no fewer than eight identities, including an airline pilot, a physician, a U.S. Bureau of Prisons agent, and a lawyer. He escaped from police custody twice before turning 22 years old and served fewer than five years in prison before starting to work for the federal government. His story inspired the Academy Award-nominated feature film, Catch Me If You Can, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks as the FBI agent pursuing him. He is currently a consultant and lecturer for the FBI academy and field offices. He also runs AbagnALE and Associates, a financial fraud consultancy company. He was born on April 27, 1948, to a French mother and an Italian American father. He spent the first 16 years of his life in New Rochelle, New York. As a teenager, he noticed that his hair was graying, which he parlayed into his persona of being a pilot by giving his appearance being older. He then forged a Federal Aviation Administration pilot’s license between the ages of 16–18, and flew more than 1,000,000 miles on more than 250,000 flights and deadheading deadheading by the time he was 21. He later decided to impersonate a more legitimate American World Airways pilot to look more legitimate when cashing checks.

He lost his uniform for them, telling the company that he had cleaned it while getting it at a hotel and obtaining a new one with a fake employee ID number. He has a son, a daughter, a son-in-law, a grandson and a great-grandson. He currently lives in New York City with his wife and three children. He lives with his family in a house he built in the town of Tuckahoe, New Jersey. He and his wife have a son and a daughter who live in New Jersey and New York, and he has a daughter and a grandson who live with his parents in New Hampshire. He now lives in Los Angeles with his husband and two daughters. He had a son with a daughter with a son who lives in California and a step-daughter with his step-son. His son and daughter live in California with his mother and step-granddaughter. He  has two step-daughters who also live in the city and have a daughter. His father was an affluent local who was very keen on politics and theater and was a role model for Abagnales Jr. He was educated first at Iona Grammar School and then Iona Preparatory School. He graduated in 1966. His first victim was his father, who gave him a gasoline credit card and a truck to assist him in commuting to his part-time job. He used the gasoline card to buy tires, batteries, and other car-related items at gas stations and then asked the attendants to give him cash in return for the products.
