The sequel was released in 2004 and was a box-office success, grossing more than $100 million worldwide and over $200 million in the U.S. It has since been remade in a number of different languages, including English, French, Spanish, and German, as well as in Chinese and Japanese. The movie was directed by former cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld in his screen directing debut, and starred Anjelica Huston, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance as Morticia Addams, Raul Julia as Gomez Addams,. and Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester. The film was released by Paramount Pictures, who completed the film and handled the film’s domestic distribution, while Columbia Pictures distributed the film internationally.

The sequel, “Addams Family Values,” was released two years after the original film and was also a box office success. It grossed over $150 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing film of the year in the United States, behind “The Lord of the Rings” (the first was “The Return of the Godfather”) and ahead of “The Wizard of Oz” (also in 1991). It was also the last film to be released by Orion Pictures, which later sold the film to Paramount Pictures for $50 million, making the film one of their highest-ever box office grosses. The second film, “The Grand Budapest Hotel”, was released the following year and made a profit of over $60 million. The third and fourth films were released in 2012 and 2013, and the fourth and 2014, respectively, were released by Columbia Pictures and Paramount Pictures. The fourth and 2015 releases were “The Fifth and the Fifth” respectively, and “The Sixth and the Seventh” were released on the same day as “The Hobbit” (and the fifth film in the series, “Avengers: The Despondent” was released on September 11, 2013.
