Mrs. Wright claims that her husband began to abuse her during the first few years of their marriage. In 2009, the Texas Criminal Court of Appeals granted a new sentencing hearing after determining that Susan Wright’s ineffective assistance of counsel rendered her guilty of murder. She is currently serving a 20-year sentence at the Crain Unit in Gatesville, Texas. She has a daughter, Kailey, and a son, Bradley, who were born in 2002 and 2003.

The couple have two young children, Bradley and Kailey Wright, who was born in 2003 and 2008 respectively. The Wrights were married for four years before the murder. The murder took place on January 13, 2003, at the Wright family house in the White Oak Bend subdivision in unincorporated northwest Harris County,Texas. The next day, Susan Wright filed a false domestic abuse report in order to get a restraining order against her husband. On January 18, Wright asked her attorney, Neal Davis, to come to her home and admitted to stabbing her husband in the bed. She turned herself in to authorities at the Harris County Courthouse on January 24 and was arraigned on murder charges the following Monday.
