About Rogue One in brief

Summary Rogue OneRogue One: A Star Wars Story is a 2016 American epic space opera film directed by Gareth Edwards. The screenplay by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy is from a story by John Knoll and Gary Whitta. The main cast consists of Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker. It is the first installment of the Star Wars anthology series and an immediate prequel to Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The plot follows a group of rebels who band together to steal plans of the Death Star, the ultimate weapon of the Galactic Empire. The film was made to be different in tone and style from the traditional Star Wars films, omitting the customary opening crawl and transitional screen wipes. It received positive reviews from critics, with praise for its acting, story, visuals, musical score, and dark tone. It grossed over USD 1 billion worldwide, making it the 20th-highest-grossing film of all time. It was released in the United States on December 16, 2016, and received two Oscar nominations for Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects. It is one of the most expensive films ever made, with an estimated production budget of at least USD 200 million, and the second- highest-grossed film of 2016 during its theatrical run. The movie is based on an idea first pitched by Knoll ten years before it entered development, and based on a story written by Whitta and Knoll.

It also details the Rebel Alliance’s first effective victory against the Empire, first referenced in a New Hope’s opening crawl. The story is set a few days before the events of the original Star Wars film, and is set in the years before the Battle of Endor in the prequel, Star Wars Episode III: The Empire Strikes Back. It has been described as the “most anticipated film of the year” by some critics. It will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on December 21, 2016. The release date has been pushed back to December 25, 2016 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the release of the first Star Wars movie, Episode III – The Battle of the Revenge of the Sith. The original release date was December 18, 2015, but it was pushed back by a few weeks to December 19, 2015 to December 20, 2015. The sequel was released on December 24, 2016 and December 25. It had a worldwide gross of more than $1.2 billion, making the film the second highest grossing Star Wars installment of all-time, behind only Episode IV-A New Hope  (with $1 billion) and ahead of The Phantom Menace ($1.4 billion). The film has been praised for its pacing, characters, and digital recreations of Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher, but criticized for its digital recreation of the actors.
