The chain was once a major player in the fast food industry, but has since scaled back its operations. The Rax brand was purchased in July 1997 by the company-owned fast food chain Cassady and Associates and was re-branded as Hardee’s.

Rax has extensively scaled down its operations since its peak in the 1980s. At its peak, the Rax chain had 504 locations in 38 states along with two restaurants in Guatemala, and two Restaurants in Canada. As part of a turnaround plan, the company sold the units that were not owned by Rax and changed the company’s name back to Rax Restaurants Inc. In July 1997, the remaining Rax-owned restaurants were purchased by Cassady & Associates and the company was rebranded as Hardee’s.

All of Rax’s fast food chains’ mascot was Uncle Alligator, who was all dominant in all kids’ meals, except for Tim Hortons, whose mascot was Alligator the T-Rex. The Rax brand was purchased in July 1997 by the company-owned fast food chain Cassady and Associates and was re-branded as Hardee’s in July 1998. The chain was once a major player in the fast food industry, but has since scaled back its operations. It is no longer a major chain in the United States.
