The limited number of paved roads within the city are also poorly maintained. Regular flights connect it with the capital, Libreville, as well as other major cities in Gabon.

The highest recorded temperature was 38. 0 °C on 26 February 2016; the lowest recorded temperature was 13. 2 °C on 1 August 1953. The Köppen-Geiger climate classification system classifies Port-gentil’s climate as tropical wet and dry. Despite the fact that the city lies in close proximity to the equator, average temperatures in July hovering at around 23. 5 C and average temperatures in February and March at around 27 C.
