Northern Beaches Council

Northern Beaches Council is a local government area located in the Northern Beaches region of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The Council was formed on 12 May 2016 after the amalgamation of Manly, Pittwater and Warringah Councils. As at the 2016 census, the council had an estimated population of 252,878, making it the third most populous area in the Sydney region. The traditional Aboriginal inhabitants of the land now known as the northern beaches were the Kuringgai people of the Eora nation.

The Council was formed on 12 May 2016 after the amalgamation of Manly, Pittwater and Warringah Councils. As at the 2016 census, the council had an estimated population of 252,878, making it the third most populous area in the Sydney region. The traditional Aboriginal inhabitants of the land now known as the northern beaches were the Kuringgai people of the Eora nation. The first meeting of the Northern beaches Council was held at Manly Town Hall on 19 May 2016 and from then until September 2017, the monthly council meetings cycled between the three former council chambers: Mona Vale Memorial Hall, Warringa Civic Centre in Dee Why and ManlyTown Hall. Since September 2017 the council meetings are held at the Civic Centre.

The current council was elected for a fixed three-year term of office on 9 September 2017. The Mayor is elected bi-annually by the councillors at the first meeting. The Deputy Mayor is elections annually. The council comprises fifteen Councillors elected proportionally, with three councillors elected in five wards. The most recent election was held on 9September 2017, and the makeup of the Council by order of election is as follows: Cr. Michael Regan, of the Your Northern Beache’s Independent Team, was elected as the inaugural Mayor on 26 September 2017 and is in office until the end of the current council term. The mayor is the first woman to be elected as mayor of the council and the first female to be mayor of a NSW local government authority. The inaugural Mayor is Cr. Michael Regan who was elected on 26September 2017.
