This episode marked the first absence of Rex, as well as the show’s two therapists: Dr. Jonathan Lee and Dr. Judith Evans. Although it was the eighth broadcast episode, it was scheduled to be the fifth episode. The music featured in this installment was “Pain in My Heart” by Otis Redding. It is the first episode to feature the character Michael Britten, a detective living in two separate realities after a car crash. The show has received generally mixed reviews, with some commentators praising the storylines of the red reality, but criticizing the arcs of the green reality. It has been described as a “police procedural fantasy drama” with a “dark undercurrent” and “a dark undercurrent to the plot” The episode is directed by Jeffrey Reiner and was written by Leonard Chang and co-executive producer Davey Holmes. The theme of the episode is the theme of love and loss, with Michael’s wife Hannah and son Rex living in the red and green realities, respectively, respectively. Michael and Hannah prepare for a new life in Oregon after deciding to move there. Michael helps Accountant Marcus Ananyev and his wife Alina start anew life in the Witness Protection Program after a gang member attempts to kill Marcus in the “green reality” In the “red reality” Michael works with Detective Isaiah “Bird” Freeman and Detective Efrem Vega after the crash. He sees two separate therapists:  Dr. Jonathan Lee in the red reality and Dr Judith Evans in the ‘green reality’ In the’red reality’ Michael sees his wife Hannah cleaning up and packing items before they move to Oregon. He meets his confidential informant, Jake, with whom he will work after Michael leaves. Jake gives the pair a tip about a warehouse, but no one shows up; Michael, Vega and Vega watch a SWAT team watch the warehouse. Back at the station, after looking at evidence, Michael decides to talk to the hotel where Alina and Marcus are staying, rather than Alina’s friends, who are tied up.
