Since July 2019 he has served as Minister for Industry at BEIS. On 28 November 2020 Zahawi was given additional responsibility for COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment at DHSC.

Summary Nadhim ZahawiNadhim Zahawi is an Iraqi-born British Conservative Party politician. He has been the Member of Parliament for Stratford-on-Avon since 2010. Since July 2019 he has served as Minister for Industry at BEIS. On 28 November 2020 Zahawi was given additional responsibility for COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment at DHSC. He is also the co-founder of the international Internet-based market research firm YouGov of which he was Chief Executive until February 2010. He was, until January 2018, Chief Strategy Officer for Gulf Keystone Petroleum. His various roles have resulted in him being the 2nd highest earning MP in the UK. Zahawi and fellow Kurd Broosk Saib were aides to Jeffrey Archer during Archer’s controversial \”Simple Truth\” campaign to help Kurdish victims of the Gulf War. In January 2016 he voted down an amendment requiring rental homes to be ‘fit for human habitation’ in Parliament. He backed Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union, arguing that the Union will never be willing to change its rules over a variety of issues. He also claimed that research showed parents prefer to pay a modest amount, £1 or £2, instead of receiving free school meals during school holidays.

In October 2013, he became a member of the Number 10 Policy Unit, and interviewed Lazard, the Government’s independent adviser on the sale of Royal Mail. He said the government had got its sums right and had to be sure that the remaining 40% of shares could be sold above the flotation price in future. In 2015 he was chairman of the secretive trans-Atlantic group Le Cercle but did not declare his membership. In 2019 he was listed as an administor of Le CerCLE in the Parliamentary Register of Interests. In 2016 he was one of 72 MPs who were themselves landlords who derived themselves from a property income from the interests of the EU. He voted down a bill requiring rental properties to be ‘fit for Human habitation’ in Parliament requiring rental houses to be fit for ‘fit for human habitation during school holidays. He voted down an amendment to the European Convention on Human Rights, which would have required parents to pay for their children’s school meals on a modest amount, instead of receiving free meals during school  holidays.
