The couple had a son, Conner, who was born on February 16, 2003, and a daughter, Amy Woodward, born on March 1, 2004. In November 2002, when Laci was seven months pregnant, Scott was introduced by a friend to a Fresno massage therapist who said she was pregnant with his child.

In December 2002, Laci disappeared while eight months pregnant with her first child. Scott was the last person to see her before she was found dead in her home in Modesto, California. Scott has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 30 years, and is serving a sentence of life. He will be eligible for parole in 20 years, after his release from prison in 2023.
