He’s of half Italian, and half a mix of Scottish, Irish and Welsh descent. He met Hoying, another co-founder of Pentatonx, and his partner in the Duo Superfruit, when he Was nine or ten and they were both doing musical theater. grassi’s favorite Broadway musical is Rent which features gay characters and actors. He gained an interest in the genre once in college, and started singing with his friends in high school. He was inspired to become a singer and musician when he met Kirstin Maldonado, another member of Pentatonix. The group’s main goal of the group was to become the first recording group to achieve mainstream success in the modern market. They gained national attention in the U.S. by competing on The Sing-Off reality-show competition. After high school graduation they recruited bassist Avi Kaplan and singerbeat boxer Kevin Olusola to audition for The Sing Off. After they won, all relocated to Los Angeles to pursue their careers.
