Kristin Dawn Chenoweth is an American actress and singer. She won a Tony Award for her performance as Sally Brown in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. In 2003, she received wide notice for originating the role of Glinda in the musical Wicked. Her television roles have included Annabeth Schott in NBC’s The West Wing and Olive Snook on the ABC comedy-drama Pushing Daisies.

She sang gospel music as a child in Oklahoma and studied opera before deciding to pursue a career in musical theatre. She has released several albums of songs, including A Lovely Way to Spend Christmas and The Art of Elegance. Her memoir, A Little Bit Wicked, was released in 2009. She is of one quarter Cherokee ancestry and that she eventually met her biological mother. She was adopted when she was five days old by Junie Smith Chenowseth and Jerry Morris Chenowset, both chemical engineers from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, a suburb of Tulsa. She earned a bachelor’s degree in musical Theatre in 1990 and a master’s in opera performance in 1992, studying under voice instructor and mentor, Florence Birdwell. She had her own sitcom, Kristin, in 2001, and has guest-starred on many shows, including Sesame Street and Glee, for which she was nominated for Emmy Awards in 2010 and 2011. In films, she has played mostly character roles, such as in Bewitched, The Pink Panther and RV.

She has done voice work in animated films such as Rio 2 and The Peanuts Movie along with the animated TV series Sit Down, Shut Up; hosted several award shows; and released several album of songs. She appeared as Hyacinth in the Roundabout Theater Company’s farcical production of The Phantom of the Opera. In 1997, she appeared in the Box Office production of the Damned, earning her first New York Times review, with Ben Brantley writing about her as the “sob-prone, sob-prone ingenue”. She has also appeared in five City Center Encores!, Off-Broadway and regional theatre productions, including The King and I and The Fantasticks. She turned down a scholarship to do the show and moved to New York to pursue her musical theatre career. She currently lives in New York with her husband, actor and director, David Hyde Pierce. She lives in Manhattan with her family and has two young children, a son and a daughter. She and her husband have a son, a daughter, and a son-in-law, a stepson and a stepdaughter, respectively. They have a daughter and a grandson, both of whom are in the process of finishing their college degrees. They also have two step-daughters, a boy and a girl, who are both in their early 20s and a boy, respectively, and have three step-grandchildren. The couple have three grandchildren.
