Kim Jong-hyun was a South Korean singer-songwriter, record producer, radio host, and author. He was the main vocalist of the South Korean boy band Shinee for nine years. He committed suicide on December 18, 2017, when he committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. His final album, Poet | Artist, was released posthumously on January 23, 2018.

He was the main vocalist of the South Korean boy band Shinee for nine years, releasing twelve albums with the group in both Korean and Japanese. Jonghyun was also a solo artist, beginning in January 2015 with the release of his first EP album, Base. He committed suicide on December 18, 2017, when he committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. His final album, Poet | Artist, was released posthumously on January 23, 2018. All profits from the album would be used to start a charity foundation. In September 2018, the Shinin Foundation was established by JonghYun’s family to help struggling young artists. He also participated in SM Entertainment’s project group, SM the Ballad, for the released of two EP albums. In August 2014, he performed the title track to Girls’ Generation’s Breath as a collaboration with Girls’ Taeyeon. In October 2013, he debuted as a composer with the track \”A Gloomy Clock\”, which was included on IU’s third Korean album, Modern Times. In June 2011, he appeared on KBS’ Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend, a television competition program where singers perform new versions of old songs by \”legendary singers\”. He won the first round and defeated his label mate, Yesung of Super Junior, but left the show after the first episode due to his busy schedule.

In November 2010, he participated in TRAX’s Jay, Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, and Jino in SM theBallad, a project group formed by SM Entertainment with a focus on ballads and R&B. He provided vocals along with label mates Sungmin of Super junior, Seohyun of Girls’ generation and Luna of f.i.c. He co-wrote the song \”Let’s Go,\” which promoted the 2010 G-20 Seoul summit. In July 2014, Jonghun debuted as radio host on the MBC radio program MBC Blue Night Night. Two months later, he co-written and performed the song Son-bi, which was also released by MBC on February 4, 2014, with a new line-up and their second EP, Breath. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head on December 17, 2017. He is survived by his wife and two children. His music has been described as one of the best vocalists in South Korea. He received praise for his artistic control and involvement in the creation of his music, which are rare in K-pop. He wrote the lyrics to the group’s fourth Korean single, Romeo and Juliet, and he wanted to write a romance story that \”will make everyone interested but also a story which everyone can identify with\”. His first studio album, She Is, was release on May 24, 2016, followed by his second compilation album, Story Op. 2, on April 24,2017.
