About Killing of Damilola Taylor in brief

Summary Killing of Damilola TaylorDamilola Olufemi Taylor was killed on 27 November 2000 in Peckham, south London. Two brothers, aged 12 and 13 at the time, were convicted of manslaughter in 2006. In 2002, four youths, including two 16-year-old brothers, went on trial at the Old Bailey for the murder of Taylor. The trial led to all four suspects being acquitted. New DNA techniques identified Taylor’s blood on the trainers of another boy Daniel Preddie and on the sweatshirt cuff of his brother Richard Preddie. On 9 October 2006, an Old Bailey judge sentenced the Preddie brothers to eight years in youth custody for manslaughter. Ricky Preddie was released on probation in 2010, subject to supervision and subject to recall if he breached the conditions of his release.

Ricky was recalled on 13 March 2011 because he had been seen associating with gang members, both contrary to his parole conditions. He was released again on 25 January 2012, again sixteen days later, after a public inquiry into the handling of the case. In February 2012, Ricky was again recalled to prison, again 16 days later. The case is one of the UK’s most high-profile killings of the 2000s.
