Kenley Geronimo Jansen is a pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball. He converted from a catcher to a relief pitcher in the minor leagues, and made his major league debut in 2010. Jansen has served as the Dodgers’ closer since 2012, and led the National League in saves in 2017. He is a three-time MLB All-Star and two-time NL Reliever of the Year. In 2019, Jansen became the 30th pitcher to reach 300 career saves.

In 2019, Jansen became the 30th pitcher to reach 300 career saves. He was born in Willemstad, Curaçao, the youngest of three sons of Isidor and Bernadette Jansen. His father worked in construction until suffering a stroke when Kenley was 12; his mother is a travel agent. He began playing baseball at the age of six, alongside his brothers, and began as an outfielder before moving to shortstop. He then met Andrelton Simmons, and was shifted to third base. He later played first base and catcher. In 2009, he was the starting catcher for the Netherlands team in the World Baseball Classic. He threw out Willy Taveras on an attempted steal of third base in the ninth inning, a key play in the game. In May 2012, he became the closer after Javy Guerra was traded to the New York Yankees. He became a key member of the bullpen for the Dodgers in 2011, when he was 2–1 with a 2.53 ERA in 2–2–1 innings and a 0–0 record in nine games.

He also struck out 96 batters, setting a new Major League record with 96 strikeouts per nine innings. In 2013, he saved four games and was 2-0 with a 1.0 ERA in 9–0–0 innings and 9-0-1 record in 10 games. His first win was his first win against the Houston Astros on September 11 in Minute Maid Park. He made his Major League debut in relief on July 23, 2010, and pitched a scoreless inning, where he retired all three batters he faced and striking out two. He appeared in 25 games with the Dodgers with a record of 1–0-0 and a 67 ERA in 2010, working in 27 innings. He hit. 227 and 9 home runs in 79 games in 2008 with the West Oahu CaneFires. After the season he played for the North Shore Honu in the Hawaii Winter Baseball League. In 2008 he was selected to the mid-season Midwest League All-star game.
