Johnny Gilbert

John L. Gilbert III is an American show business personality who has worked mainly on television game shows. He is known primarily for his work as the announcer and audience host for the syndicated version of the quiz show Jeopardy!. In 1963, Gilbert was selected by Mark Goodson to replace Bill Cullen as announcer and host of the original Bill Cullen-hosted version of The Price Is Right. He also served as announcer for Dinah Shore’s syndicated talk show Merv Griffin!

He is known primarily for his work as the announcer and audience host for the syndicated version of the quiz show Jeopardy!. In 1963, Gilbert was selected by Mark Goodson to replace Bill Cullen as announcer and host of the original Bill Cullen-hosted version of The Price Is Right. He hosted the show for the first time on June 19, 1964, when Bill Cullen was absent from the show. He also served as announcer for Dinah Shore’s syndicated talk show Merv Griffin! from 1974 until 1980 when the show was re-run by ABC. He has a son and a daughter, both of whom were born in the United States.

He lives in Newport News, Virginia, with his wife and three children. He currently lives in New York City with his son and his wife’s mother. He was married to his wife, Barbara, for more than 30 years. He and his son have three children, all of whom are active members of the New York Knicks hockey team and the New Orleans Saints football team, as well as two step-grandchildren. Gilbert has been married to wife Barbara for over 30 years, and has three children with whom he has three grandchildren. He had a son, John, who was born in 1998. He now lives in Los Angeles, California and has a daughter with her husband, Jennifer, and a son with whom she has one son, Michael. He previously lived in Florida, where he worked as an emcee for the Sky Way club.
