John Knatchbull, 7th Baron Brabourne

John Ulick Knatchbull, 7th Baron Brabourne, CBE, was a British peer, television producer and Oscar-nominated film producer. Married to a daughter of the 1st Earl Mountbatten, he was a survivor of the bombing which killed his father-in-law, mother and son. He received two Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, as producer of Romeo and Juliet and A Passage to India.

He was the subject of This Is Your Life in 1990 when he was surprised by Michael Aspel at the Old Brewery venue in London.

He served as a country gentleman, and took his responsibilities seriously, including serving as a governor of various local schools. He also served as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Kent from 1964 to 1994. He died in a car crash in 1999, aged 83. He is buried at Mersham in Kent. His son, John, is the 7th Lord Brabouredne, and his daughter, Patricia, is a former Prime Minister of the UK and a member of the House of Lords.
