He is known for his portrayal of fictional satirical characters, including Ali G, Borat Sagdiyev, Brüno Gehard and Admiral General Aladeen. Baron Cohen adopts a variety of accents and guises for his characters. He has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 2008.

Sacha Noam Baron Cohen is an English actor, comedian, writer, and producer. He made a cameo as a BBC News Anchor in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. In 2016 Baron Cohen appeared in the comedy film Grimsby and co-starred in the fantasy sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass. Two years later, he created and starred in Who Is America? for Showtime, his first television project since Da Ali G Show, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy. In 2013, Baron Cohen received the BAFTA Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy. In 2018, The Times named Baron Cohen among the 30 best living comedians. He was born on 13 October 1971 in Hammersmith, London to Jewish parents. His maternal grandmother, Liesel, trained as a ballet dancer in Germany before fleeing the Nazis in 1936. His father, Gerald Baron Cohen, an editor-turned-clothing store owner, was born in London and raised in Wales. His paternal family were German Jewish emigrants to Israel, who moved to Pontypridd and London in the United Kingdom.
His cousin Simon Baron-Cohen is an autism researcher. He studied History with a focus on anti-semitism at Christ’s College, Cambridge. As an undergraduate, he wrote his dissertation on the American civil rights movement. Growing up, he was a fan of Peter Sellers, Monty Python and Cyrano de Bergerac. He played the cello and made his television debut on Young Musicians. He also appeared in shows such as Fiddler on the Roof and Habon de Habon Dror. While a student at Cambridge University, he performed in shows on the stage and in the theatre, such as Habon d’Habon D’Dor. His mother, Daniella Naomi, is a photographer, and his father is an editor and clothing store owner. His older brothers: Erran and Amnon. Erran is a composer and has worked on several of Sacha’s films. His younger brother, Amnon, is an actor and composer who has appeared in several of Baron Cohen’s films, including Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Les Misérables and The Trial of the Chicago 7. In 2012, he received the Outstanding Achievement Award at the British Comedy Awards, accepting the award while reprising his Ali G character. After the release of Borat, he said he would retire Borat and Ali G because the public had become too familiar with the characters. In 2014, he portrayed Eli Cohen in the limited series The Spy for OCS and Netflix.
