Joakim Noah

Joakim Simon Noah (born February 25, 1985) is a French-American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for the Florida Gators, winning back-to-back NCAA championships in 2006 and 2007. The Chicago Bulls selected Noah with the ninth overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft. He has also played for the New York Knicks, New York Nets, and the Los Angeles Lakers. Noah is a two-time NBA All-Star and was named to the All-NBA First Team in 2014. He represented France in international competitions.

Noah was born in New York City, to French singer and former world No. 3 tennis player Yannick Noah, winner of the French Open in 1983, and Cécilia Rodhe, Miss Sweden and fourth runner-up at Miss Universe 1978. His grandfather Zacharie Noah was a Cameroonian professional football player. Noah accepted an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida, where he played for coach Billy Donovan’s Florida Gators men’s basketball team from 2004 to 2007. Noah and his teammates at Florida, Corey Brewer and Al Horford, became the highest-picked trio from the same college in the history of the NBA. He was the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament’s Minneapolis Regional after leading the Gators over top-seeded Villanova in the final game with 26 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks. In November 2007, Noah made his regular season debut off the bench after spraining his ankle. He scored 2 points and had 4 rebounds in his first start with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Noah has a rocky start with his NBA career, being given a rocky team after being chosen as the third overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks, and being chosen seventh overall by the Minneapolis Timberwolves. He has also played for the New York Knicks, New York Nets, and the Los Angeles Lakers. He is a member of the France national basketball team, and has played in the FIBA World Cup and the European Champions Cup. He also has a role in the French national team, playing in the 2014 FIBA Under-21 World Championship. Noah played for France at the 2014 European Under-20 Championships. He won the French Under-23 World Championship in 2014 and the 2014 French Open at the age of 21. He had a role on the France Under-25 World Championship team in 2014, playing as a point guard and shooting guard. In the 2014 World Cup, he played in a match-up against the future 2007 NBA Draft number one pick, Greg Oden. Noah also played on both sides of the ball on both the offensive and defensive sides of both the FIBO World Championships in Brazil and the 2016 European Championships in the Netherlands. He currently plays for the French club Levallois Sporting Club, in Paris. His father is French tennis player and former French No. 1 tennis player Yannick Noah, and his grandfather is Cameroonian pro football player Zacharie Zacharie Noah, who won the Coupe de France in 1961.
