Jayson Christopher Tatum is an American professional basketball player for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association. Tatum attended Chaminade College Preparatory School in Creve Coeur, Missouri. He was rated a five-star recruit and regarded as one of the top players in the Class of 2016 by recruiting services. He played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils before entering the 2017 NBA draft.

He played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils before entering the 2017 NBA draft. The Boston Celtics selected Tatum with the third overall pick by the NBA. He won the 2019 Skills Challenge during NBA All-Star Weekend. He is the son of Saint Louis University alma mater, Jay Tatum, and his mother is the former head women’s basketball coach at the university. Tayson is the nephew of former U.S. Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Tatum and the great-grandson of former NBA star, Bobby Tatum. He has a brother, Jaylen, and a sister, both of whom play for the New York Knicks and New York City Knicks respectively. He also has a half-brother, Jayden Tatum Jr., who plays for the Brooklyn Nets and Brooklyn Nets. He will play for Duke in the 2018-19 NBA season. He previously played for the St. Louis Eagles Amateur Athletic Union team on the highly competitive Nike Elite Youth Basketball League Circuit. He earned Second-team Naismith Trophy All-American honors as a junior. He made a verbal commitment to Duke University before his senior year of high school.

In summer 2015, Tatum led the EYBL in scoring with 26. 5 points and 9. 5 rebounds per game. In the 2016 Gatorade National Player of the Year, he was ranked as the No. 3 overall recruit behind Harry Giles & Josh Jackson and No. 2 small forward in the 2016 high school class. In January 2016, he won the Skills competition, and in the all-star game on March 30, 2016, at the United Center in Chicago, he scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in a 114–107 loss to the East Team. In April, he also played in the Jordan Brand Classic, where he scored18 points in a 131–117 win against the West team. In December 2016,  Tatum was named ACC freshman of the week. Before the start of 2016–17, he missed 8 games due to a foot injury. On January 4, 2017, he recorded 22 points and 6 rebounds over Georgia Tech and Miami Tech. On February 13, he earned his second ACC week honor by scoring 28 points and had a season-high 28 points against Virginia. On March 10, he defeated Clemson in the second round and Louisville in the quarterfinals in the ACC Tournament. On the same day, he had a 46-point game against Huntington Prep and Miles Bridges at the Cancer Research Classic. On December 21, 2016,. Tatum recorded 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks in a 72–61 win over Elon. On January 4, 2017,. he scored 19 points in  a 110–57 victory over Boston College College.
