About Jack Antonoff in brief

Summary Jack AntonoffJack Michael Antonoff is an American singer, songwriter and record producer. He is the lead singer of indie pop band Bleachers, and a guitarist and drummer in the indie rock band Fun. Antonoff has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award and won four Grammy Awards: two for his work with Fun, one for production on Taylor Swift’s album 1989, and one with St. Vincent for writing the title track on Masseduction. He also started his own music festival, Shadow of The City, which takes place annually in New Jersey. His younger sister, Sarah, died of brain cancer at the age of 13 when Antonoff was a senior in high school. He grew up in New Milford, New Jersey, and Woodcliff Lake, New NJ, and attended elementary school at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County. For high school, he and his sister commuted to Manhattan, to attend the Professional Children’s School. In 2008, Nate Ruess asked Antonoff to join him and Andrew Dost in a new band, which became fun. The new band released its debut album, Aim and Ignite, in 2009. Fun’s second album, Some Nights, produced the band’s first number-one hit single, \”We Are Young. The band then released a free six-song EP in December 2013, titled Shane Went Live in Bangkok: Fun Live in the USA. Before Shane, Antonoff announced a solo project called Bleachers in February 2014.

The name was inspired by the darker side of suburban youth and John Hughes movies, which were “tied to a time when big songs were big,’’ Antonoff said in June 2014. He has said he’s applied that grassroots mentality to his future projects, including Bleachers and Bleachers’ first album, Wanna Be Loved, which was released in September 2013. The group was popular on the jamband festival circuit and Antonoff says he’s applied that mentality to their future projects. The first Bleachers album had a positive review of the first single, ‘I’m In It For The Long Run’. The second single was ‘Wanna be Loved’, which had a negative review, which Antonoff explained was due to the fact that the songs were mostly written on his laptop in hotel rooms during a world tour. The third single was ‘We are Young’ which was co-written by Antonoff with Ruess, Dost, and Jeff Bhasker. The fourth and final single on the album was called ‘The Other Side of You’ and was written by the three of them on Antonoff and Dost. The fifth and final song on the first album was “The Other side of You,” which was written on a laptop in a hotel room in Las Vegas, Nevada, during a tour of the U.S. in 2013.
