Because the trains transport guests between stations in two separate theme parks, riders must have an admission pass valid for both theme parks. The Hogwarts Express soft-opened to the public on July 1, 2014, before officially opening seven days later. Within a month of the Hogwarts Express’ opening, one million riders had ridden the train. The train carries 30,000 passengers per day, and operates 365 days per year. It is an articulated cable car formed of five sections: a replica of a steam locomotive and its set of seven passenger compartments plus a set of two tenders. Each compartment holds up to eight passengers instead of its own projection projection system. It has a peak power rating of 636 kilowatts.
