Francis Alick Howard, OBE, was an English comedian and comic actor. He began to entertain during World War II service in the British Army. Known for his seemingly off-the-cuff remarks to the audience. Died in a car crash in London in 1986, aged 83.

Summary Frankie HowerdFrancis Alick Howard, OBE, was an English comedian and comic actor. He began to entertain during World War II service in the British Army. Known for his seemingly off-the-cuff remarks to the audience, especially in the show Up Pompeii! In 1971 British exhibitors voted him the ninth most popular star at the box office. Howerd appeared as Francis Bigger, one of the lead characters in 1967’s Carry On Doctor. In 1971 he recorded a comedy version of the song ‘Jea time’ by Jane Birkin. He was awarded an OBE for services to comedy in 1973. He died in a car crash in London in 1986, aged 83. He is buried in a suburb of London, near his former home in Shooter’s Hill, London, where he lived with his wife and two children. He also had a son, Peter, who was a TV presenter and comedian. He has a daughter, Emma, who is also a comedian. Howersd is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son-in-law.
