Erling Haaland

Erling Braut Haaland (born 21 July 2000) is a Norwegian professional footballer who plays as a striker for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund and the Norway national team. He started his career at hometown club Bryne FK in 2016, and moved to Molde FK the next year before signing with Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg in January 2019. In the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League, he became the first teenager to score in five consecutive Champions League matches. In December 2019, he completed a transfer to Dortmund for a fee reported to be in the region of €20 million.

He is recognised for his pace, athleticism, strength and precise off-the-ball movement, and he has been considered as one of the best young footballers in the world. He was born in Leeds, England, as his father Alf-Inge Håland was playing for Leeds United in the Premier League at the time. In 2004 at the age of three, he moved to Bryne, Norway, his parents’ hometown, and started in the academy of his hometown club. He made his debut for Bryne in a second-tier 1. divisjon match against Ranheim on 12 May 2016. In May 2016, Gaute Larsen was sacked as Bryne manager and youth coach Alf Ingve Berntsen was promoted to caretaker boss. After a trial with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, HaalAnd was offered a trial by German club TSG Hoffenheim before finally moving to Molda FK to play under Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

He scored his first goal for Molde in his debut in the 3–2 win against Volda. His league debut came on 4 June 2017 when he came on as a substitute in the 71st minute against Sarpsborg 08. He received a yellow card after 65 seconds on the pitch, and scored the winner in the 77th minute, a goal which was his first Eliteserien goal. On 1 July 2018, he scored four goals within the first 21 minutes of the first match of the season against SK Brann. He continued his run when he scored two goals in a 5–1 victory against Vlengrenga in the Europa League. On 8 July, HaAland scored in Molde’s Europa League match against Laçi Kçiçi. He won the 2020 Golden Boy award for scoring 10 goals in the competition, and won the Golden Boot at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He finished his first season at Molde with four goals in 20 appearances, and finished his second season at the club with four in 20 games. He also won the Austrian Bundesliga and Austrian Cup with Red Bull in January 2019, and was named Austrian Footballer of the Year for the second year in a row.
