Elisabeth Singleton Moss is an American actor and producer. She is best known for playing Zoey Bartlet in the NBC political drama series The West Wing. Moss also starred in the AMC period drama series Mad Men. She won the Primetime Emmy Award for producing and starring as June Osborne in the Hulu dystopian drama The Handmaid’s Tale.

Moss was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Ron and Linda Moss, both of whom were musicians; her mother plays jazz and blues harmonica professionally. She was raised a Scientologist. Her father is English. Her mother is of part Swedish descent. Moss’ first screen role was in 1990, when she appeared in theNBC miniseries LuckyChances. From 1992 until 1995, Moss appeared as Cynthia Parks in seven episodes of the TV series Picket Fences. She provided the voice of Holly DeCarlo, a main character in the TV special Frosty Returns, and of Michelle in the animated film Once Upon a Forest. In 2002, Moss had a supporting role in a commercial for Excedrin, in which she addressed the audience about the benefits for people who suffer from migraines.

Moss appeared in three films by Alex Ross Perry, including Her Smell. In 2004, she was nominated for a Independent Spirit Award for the movie The Virgin Virgin, for which she made a supporting part in Ron Howard’s Western thriller The Missing. Moss has appeared in Heart of America and three other films by Ron Howard, including The One I Love, The Square, and The Invisible Man. She has also appeared in Broadway productions of David Mamet’s Speed the Plow and Wendy Wasserstein’s The Heidi Chronicles. She also had a small role in The same year, she had a role in the movie Mum, playing the girl with a drug addiction. Moss is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the National Board of Review of Playwrights, and she has been nominated for several awards, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film for Top of the Lake and a Tony Award for The Children’s Hour. She currently lives in New York City with her husband and two children.
