Dolores O’Riordan

Dolores Mary Eileen O’Riordan was an Irish musician, singer, and songwriter. She was best known as the lead vocalist and lyricist for the alternative rock band the Cranberries. Known for her lilting mezzo-soprano voice, her signature yodel, her emphasised use of keening, and her strong Limerick accent. She sold more than 40 million albums worldwide during her life.

Known for her lilting mezzo-soprano voice, her signature yodel, her emphasised use of keening, and her strong Limerick accent. During her lifetime, she released seven studio albums, including four number-one albums. She sold more than 40 million albums worldwide during her life; that total increased to almost 50 million albums as of 2019, excluding her solo albums. In the months following her death, she was named \”The Top Female Artist of All Time\” on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart. She died by drowning due to alcohol intoxication in January 2018, at the age of 46. She is survived by her husband, two children, and two step-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a brother and a sister, both of whom are in their 60s and 70s, and a son, who is in his 20s and 30s, who lives in the United States. She appeared as a judge on RTÉ’s The Voice of Ireland during the 2013–14 season. In April 2014, she joined and began recording new material with the trio D. A. R. K. and Emly Casly and FC Coláiste Casly.

She had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2015, and subsequently released her last album with the group, Something Else. She died on January 31, 2018, in Dublin. Her funeral was held at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland, on January 28, 2018.
