Devin McCourty

Devin McCourty is an American football free safety for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He played college football at Rutgers, and was drafted by the Patriots in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He is the twin brother of New Jersey Jets safety Jason McCourTY. He has been voted the sixth best cornerback in the NFL by Sports Illustrated and ESPN, and the fifth best cornerback by Bleacher Report and DraftScout.com.

He was named to the All-Big East Conference first team in his final two seasons at Rutgers. He graduated from Rutgers with a bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2010. He is the twin brother of New Jersey Jets safety Jason McCourTY. He has been voted the sixth best cornerback in the NFL by Sports Illustrated and ESPN, and the fifth best cornerback by Bleacher Report and DraftScout.com. He also won the Super Bowl with the New York Jets in 2009 and 2010, as well as the Superbowl XLVIII XLVI XLVII XLVII. He had a multi-interception game of his career on December 6, 2010, in a win against the Green Bay Packers. He made his professional regular season debut and first career start against the Cincinnati Bengals in the Patriots’ 38–24 victory. On December 29, 2010 it was announced that it was voted it was time to retire McCoury’s No. 6 jersey. He will retire at the end of the 2014 season. He previously played in the Super bowl for the Jets in 2010 and 2011. He won a Super Bowl ring in 2010 with the Patriots. He received a $1.5 million signing bonus in 2010, which was the largest in NFL history for a free safety. He was named an All-East Conference academic selection in his first two seasons.

He started 13 games at cornerback in his 2008 junior season, picking up 57 tackles, one interception, and a blocked punt. In his final season at Rutgers in 2009, he had a career-high 80 tackles and also recorded one interception and 10 pass deflections. He averaged 25. 4 yards on kickoff returns and had a 98-yard kickoff return, third-longest in school history. He attended the NFL Scouting Combine and performed all of the combine drills. He chose to stand on his combine numbers and only performed positional drills. On March 10, 2010 he attended Rutger’s annual pro day, but chose to standing on his Combine numbers andonly performed positional drilling. He began competing for a job as a starting cornerback against Darius Butler. He recorded five solo tackles and a pass deflection in the New Patriots’ season-opener against the Bengals. On November 14, 2010,. he collected a season-high 11 combined tackles and broke up a pass in the Pats’ 39–26 victory at the Pittsburgh in Week 10. He continued his three-game streak with an interception and a sack in Week 15, he collected ten solo tackles, a sack, and made his first career interception as a Patriots player. On October 24,2010, he made three combined tackles,  and made his interception off a pass by quarterback Philip Rivers during a 23–20 win at the San Diego Chargers in Week 7.
